The devastation caused by the 11 March 2011 earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan again demonstrated the awe-inspiring power of nature and how vulnerable humans are in the face of it. The earthquake measured 9 on the Richter scale and was followed by many aftershocks, some measuring more than 6.
